Emil Lindgren had this to say,
"Cyprus is really a top place for preparing the new season. Quiet roads, top offroad and a climate which is top notch!
Professional or just a happy biker, Cyprus is the place to ride your bike. Enjoy!"
Fabian Giger
"I had beautiful ten days in Cyprus.
We had all the time sunny and warm weather and i could ride my bike on perfect tracks.
Furthermore i could win the Afxentia Stage Race. This is a big success for me andI’ll take home a lot of good memories. We were hosted in Kalavasos in typical Cypriotic apartments. This made our stay unique.I hope to come back next year at the same time again !"
Jolanda Neff
"My time in Cyprus with the Giant Pro XC Team was a great experience. I enjoyed how we lived together in Cypriot rural houses in a small town called Kalavasos and could ride our bikes everyday. The Afxentia Stage Race, in which I took part, was a really the start in the season and was a good test of our form and showed us where we still have to work. Thanks a lot to my team for the perfect set up and support during the races and also in the week after for training. Looking forward to coming back to Cyprus one day!"
Michiel van der Heijden
"Cyprus 2013 was a perfect opportunity to start the season for the Giant Pro XC Team. Ourriders battled in the front of every race and got some victories. For me personal I enjoyed the time here in Cyprus and had many good rides In the mountains or next to the coast. Kalavassos was our home base where we could enjoy the rest after our training and races. I am really looking forward to come back to Cyprus next year."
Maja Wloszczowska, had this to say about her experience in Cyprus this winter (2013),
"Amazing island, amazing people, amazing training facilities. – Cyprus 2013
For my first training camp with the new team Giant Pro XC team I came to Cyprus. I have been here before in 2007 and I already had some good memories. Especially from the races which I did that year (two times second place and one victory). This year because of my ankle injury I couldn’t take part in Sunshine Cup but I’ve used my time on the island for perfect training. And I’m more than satisfied about the work which I could do in wonderful conditions.
First of all I would like to send big THANK YOU to all Cyprus people. I got great care from Cyprus Tourism Agency, but I got amazing support also from local people. I’m not really used to such a big kindness of people who can get from you nothing more than your smile. You need a lift, you need water during the training, you are out of energy and need some oranges from private orchard… Or maybe you need some help with the bike defect… There is always somebody to help.
I’ve spent on Cyprus 16 days. During that time I did different types of training. Road bike, mountainbike, gym, running. First thing that made me really happy was the condition of roads, variety of terrain (if you need flat – you go by the coast, if you want mountains – the only problem you have is to decide which uphill you go first) and… low traffic. And all that with great weather, almost always sunny one, and with beautiful views to admire. Even hard training is a big pleasure then. Cyprus is also reach in off-roads. Gravel ones for easy rides on the mountainbike and singletracks for experienced riders. And one more important thing to notice – you will always meet other cyclists on your training, so if you don’t like to ride alone it’s not a problem at all!
We were staying in a very familiar plase – Takis house in Kalavasos village. I loved the style of our apartments, each one different, each connected with others by doors, window or terrace. Big pleasure for me was our team cooking, but also dinners in the local restaurants with a great fresh fishes and typical Cyprus fish Meze. The sea view, sound of waves and bird singing made me feel relaxed after each training. I did a lot of work but thanks to that island and wonderful people I feel like I’m after one of the best holidays in my life.
For sure I’ll be back. I hope that next time also for the great organized races! "
Hello, From: Henk Jaap Moorlag
The time in Cyprus was as usually perfect, we did like every year al the races and its perfect to come in shape and in the race speed.
The weather is the biggest advantage, at home it is very cold and training is hard to do but in Cyprus i can ride my bike 4hours every day with no problems.
The races where nice this year, it is for us a classic race. We are not only coming for training but specially for the races.
Thanks for everything this year Cyprus you made our days.
Grt Henk Jaap Moorlag
Cyprus Sunshine Cup
For the Sunshine Cup Ive been at Cyprus for ten days. With the Giant Pro Mountain bike Team we stayed in the nice and quiet town of Kalavasos. This place is situated with good possibilities to train on the bike both flat (near the coast) and in the mountains (direction Troodos).
We took the advantage of the beautiful scenery on the island to have some great videos and photo shoots from our team. The towns, rough nature and the light of the sun make it perfect for cool shots.
The Afxentia Tour I took part in was very well organized with challenging courses. As it was my first race back on mtb in eight years, it was physically and technically quite demanding, but of course this makes the satisfaction of riding your bike even bigger!
That I could take home the win in the general classification and two stages was a big surprise and so Ill have good memories on this journey.
It made me sad when I had to turn back home, because all the circumstances have been perfect for training and racing. The atmosphere on the island is relaxing and the people make you feel welcome. It definately makes me want to come back to Cyprus!
