Leo van Zeeland is undoubtlyone of the pioneers of mountainbiking in the Netherlands.The
formercyclist , originallyfrom Brabant, became MTB coordinator in 1991 with the KNWU (Royal Dutch Cycling Union) , and from that season he was also the MTB team coach.
In thatcapacity he coached Bart Brentjens, first in 1995 to the world title and then in 1996 to the Olympic title. Van Zeeland was alsoactive as a coach in as many as four Olympic games. He was national team coach until the end of 2008 andfrom 2010-2012 he was the team coach of Rabobank Giant Offroad Team.
In 2004 he organised the training camp justbefore the Athens Olympic Games in Cyprus . A few days later Bart Brentjens won his second Olympic medaille, this time bronze.
In 2012 Emil Lindgren of the Rabobank Giant Offroad Team won the overall Sunshine.
In 2013 his team has new name: Giant Pro XC Team and start the season as nr 1 UCI Elite Team.
Mr Van Zeeland, in anticipation to his planned Cyprus trip and stay at agrotourism accommodation in Tochni and Kalavasos villages, he stated to us the following, " I am really looking forward leaving the cold winter conditions of Northern Europe, behind for some Cyprus winter warm hospitality ! Cyprus, see you soon ".
